I started taking apart both firerocks that I picked up recently. One is going to the dump because no one takes the body for recycling around here It's pretty much hacked up when it was modified to take a car battery.
I'm getting quick with removing all the wiring. Got both harnesses, switches, pedals, gearboxes and motors off in no time. I opened up one gearbox and looks good - needs grease and maybe cleaning. The rest have no clicking sounds; only cleaning & re-greasing.
I washed off the firerock body that I'm keeping which was lots of fun for Memphis. That pretty much got rid of all the grime, dirt and dead spiders. I'm just glad I didn't find any live ones! Yikes! I noticed that the front grill supports are broken. Looks like I'll need a replacement grill.

Still thinking what to do - whole new theme or just restoration. I'm thinking restoration.
Not sure I'm gonna keep this one after I restored it. Memphis is a tad big for it. I'll decide when I'm done. I might sell it or give it as a gift to my cousin's son.

I'm back on the project. It's been a trying month with a death in our family and vacation time. I haven't touched any of the power wheels since April.
I cleaned up the firerock (again) because it was sitting out for several weeks in the rain and wind. I cleaned out the gearboxes and checked all the wiring. Then I put it back together for a test run with 12V. Reverse only, no forward. Looks like I'll be cleaning switches. I flipped the switch around so I could see how fast it goes on forward. My son tried it out. Man, that thing is fast! It's faster than the Lil Jeep. I know everyone says that's the case but it's impressive once you see it.
The only thing with the Firerock is that it's small. My son barely fits in it. I think this one will be a restoration only. I may sell it. Or I might gift it to my niece. She's a lil over 1 years old but she fits perfectly in it. She is loving power wheels, mostly as passenger. She crawls in the power wheels every chance she gets when she's visiting.
That's about all to update for now. |

It's a red body firerock with blue windshield/roll bar so I think I'll keep it as is. Plus my sister doesn't dig "girly" stuff for my niece. I already have a barbie jeep waiting for her when she gets older.
The most I'll do is add some girl flair but keep original colors. |

I had a broken grill just like that also. Easy fix just remove the headlights and run a screw thru the headlight into the body. Put the headlight back on and presto. Good as new You cant even see the screw since the headlight gets installed back in. |

I've been ignoring this. Well, actually, I've been jumping from project to project and finally trying to get back to this one. However, reverse or forward (depending on how I put the switch in) is not working. I cleaned the switches. Checked all the connections. Nada. I tried a couple of other switches that I have and still not working. Okay, any suggestions other than buying a brand new switch? Either way I put in the switch, one direction (reverse or forward) doesn't work.
BTW I cannot find the duplicolor adhension promotor or the rustoleum plastic primer at home depot, lowes or ace hardware. Last try will be true value hardware. Any online websites that I might be able to find this, preferably one that you have good experience with? I'm thinking to repaint the firerock and the ninja before the cool weather returns. |

It sounds to me like a broken "crossover" wire, or the end in the plastic connector is corroded... |

| Anyone know if Smokey is still around for custom decals? Or can someone recommend a person who does custom decals? I'm thinking instead of restoration, I'm gonna repaint this in the local hockey team colors (Arizona Sundogs). I'm planning to sell it. Memphis hardly fits in it and besides, he has 4 other PWs to choose from. I sold the copper jeep and he didn't notice it was gone. |
