I bought this "off brand" jeep in oct. for my sons second birthday and soon grew very dissapointed in its performance and had an idea of "MORE POWER".Well sure enough I came across this site and found out that this has been going on for some time and that im not the only crazy one!lol So I decided to post some pics of my first couple of mods. Here we have a pic of brand new.

59.81 KB next I bumped it up with a 12v12ah battery

32.41 KB Then came rubber tires and steel wheels from seeing chevytuners pw jeep. I know you guys arent big on this with stock gearboxes but believe it or not it has been doing fine with one box so far.

33.47 KB And then tonight i put a couple led strips underneath with a switch

27.66 KB

18.38 KB Thats all I got so far, next is a second gearbox to make 2wd,headlights,and maybe paint when it warms up again.I just want to thank everyone on here for what you are doing,I would have never thought of this without all of the knowledge on this site.Keep up th good work!

Love the rubber tires, I'll be looking to do that with my sons KFX soon, hopefully before winters over. Quick question though, how challanging was the conversion
Thanks

It wasnt to bad putting the tires and wheels on I had to do some shimming on the axle and behind the hubs to make it line up right.I'll get some pics of it tomorrow.

Nice project, I bet those tires make it run a lot quieter as well as getting traction on all terrain

The handling will be better in every way imaginable. The worst downside you might see is a bit of push when turning, but probably not with the rubber tires. With only one wheel drive, the handling is terrible, always pulling to one side.... on top of getting stuck all the time!

I figured I would bring this blog back to life after some time sitting idle.Well the story goes,I went into the garage about a week ago to work on the metal frame jeep I have been building.Once I get everything out and geared up to finish welding, pull the trigger,OUT OF WIRE! @%#*&!.........Now what an I gonna do since I have a "free pass" to the garage? Already frustrated I take the metal frame off the bench and set it on the floor, then I noticed this poor little mud warrior over in the corner sitting there looking all inocent with its still stock wiring and non working headlights(fried them with 18v) and said "I'll just rewire you today".Well here we go another snowball effect build if you will.I started with tearing it apart to just put in a PW harness I had laying around. Then I thought well the red is getting kinda old so why not paint it while its apart.Next came the headlights, the ones that were there was my first mod ever so lets redo them as well. Now I'm in the middle of another 4wd mod because why not! I'm already this far into it.Anyway enough rambling heres a few pics of the progress so far.

A little more progress on the 4wd upgrade,I had to fab up a holder to keep the gearboxes in place on the front. This idea actually comes from a pic that Fortis posted on one of his mods.I bent a piece of 1" flat stock steel around the box to make a cage and then welded it to the front spindle.Maybe a little overkill but it will work! Heres a couple pics.

Very nice project!

I think the suspense would get the best of me and I would have to at least try 18v.

BTW: I have a mostly complete one with these with the same windshield/roll-bar/push-bar if you ever need anything from it. I'm not going to list it for sale, but I don't think I'm going to do anything with it either.

I know what you mean,I did have it on 18v for about ten minutes last summer and forgot about the lights wired to the main on/off switch.Well you can probably guess no sooner than my son climbed on he hit the light switch and poof there went the headlight wiring! So I do know this thing will eat at 18v,just dont know how much carnage will be left behind .
Oh and thanks for the offer on the parts,I will be sure and keep you in mind .

Well I believe I am finished with this one for a while,it was just enough to get my Pw juices flowing again and maybe get my other projects done .I finished it up last night, havent had a chance to test drive it yet.But hopefully later on this afternoon Bug can go out and give it a shot, and plus we just got a fresh covering of snow (not really enough for 4wd).While it was apart I shot some of the plastic black and left the bottom tub its original grey just because thats the part most accceptible to collisions and scratches.I may add a couple decals to it after I print them up but this is pretty much what she looks like.Let me know what you think .

Those Mud Warriors/Dream Dazzlers get a bad deal. Everyone thinks they are worthless. So they're somewhat silly looking and the electronics suck.....but they are really well built beyond that. Great potential for modding. I like the way you can hide all the wires under the side panels. Go get that thing in the snow!

Taz- I agree these are terrible stock but have tons of modding potential, especially if you find one free..........I bought this one new....it was our first I didnt know any better. So I guess thats why I keep adding to this one maybe someday it will earn its keep, lol. As soon as momma gets home from work we are gonna try it out,I'll try to get a vid.

Well we hit the snow last night and the results......kinda dissapointing . First thing I noticed was the front wheels looked to be spinning faster then the back, now the gearboxes are the same as I checked them when I greased them up.But the motors are different because I changed the original motors out of the back two GBs.Maybe there is enough difference in motor rpms that it is noticeable, not sure yet,I will put the stockers back in the rear and try again.
The other thing was it keep kicking the breaker in the PW harness,so I plan on getting that thing out of there as it already has a 40 amp fuse by the battery. And I do believe its gonna be 18v when it comes back out to play in the snow.

Finally got back on my feet and got this thing "finished".I went ahead and bumped it up to 18v to see how it would go.Heres a vid of my oldest driving in about 3 inches of melting snow and slush.I didnt realize it until last night that he has pretty much outgrown this thing, but his little brother will be ready for it this summer.

Excellent. Perhaps make a set of snow chains? (really easy to do, just use the light figure8 link chain fomr any hardware store.

I know it seems silly, given the drivng conditions, but at 18v on 6v rated motors, I would still suggest some passive heatsinks. That thing uses the same moptors and gearboxes as the Silver Quad and while 36v is not too much to ask of them, dissapating heat is critical from 12v up.

By the way, see if you can find a Crazy Cat quad somewhere. It is the big brother of the silver quad and uses the same gearboxes (meaning the same as this dream dazzler of yours, too). runs 12v as standard but swaping each 6v for 1v gets a very astonishing result at 24v out of it. If your son is outgrowing the smaller range, this is a really good next step and allows you to use interchangeable parts re GB's). I'll post some pics of the bike tomorrow.

Thanks,
Just a little update on the Mud Warrior:My 18 mo.old has been showing intrest in this little machine so the other day I decided to let him climb on in and give it a shot(at 12v).The first minute or two went well because the front wheels were kinda "locked" in one direction so that all he done was circles in the back yard.Soon after that he figured out how to jerk the steering wheel and get it goin straight, well then it was on! He got a real big kick out of watching me chase him down and try to stop him from crashing into everything in sight.Which is pretty hard since you cannot hold this thing back with all your might! It just wants to rare up and keep going, lol.
So the morale of the story?.......This thing is getting a remote kill ASAP!!!!!

Great post! Have a Mud Warrior that has been sitting for a couple of after the battery went dead, I how can I chk to see it he gearbox still works. Its been sitting outside under a tarp. And now my youngest is wanting it to work. so I rather fix this one up insteda of buying another. wanted to double up on battery from 6 to 12 and add another gearbox if the one oprginal is good or just get two more. is there any additional wiring to do this?

Yes you can add another gearbox to make it 2wd pretty easily, they already have a knockout on the other side for a motor.
You can purchase another gearbox from these places,http://recycledtoybarn.webs.com/apps/webstore/
Or try here,I dont see any listed but you may contact him thru emailhttp://nsawoodworking.com/Powered-Vehicles.html

As for the wiring you will want to upgrade to at least 12ga because the stock wires are too thin to handle running two motors. On this project I used an old pw harness from a jeep and added the wiring to the front motors.
Good luck and be sure to post pics of your project!Dont be afraid to ask more questions if you run into trouble

I am picking up a mud warrior for free probably monday or tuesday so I may call on ya for advise! That thing hauls! I did have a question on what LEDs you used underneath and perhaps where you got them from. I pretty much have my daughters Jeep done except for head/tail lights and the LEDs under it. I like the amount of light the ones you used put out. Thanks in advance and keep up the very nice mods!!

The lights are from auto zone I think,it has been a while since I put those on.But most auto parts store will have them, they are 12" strip lights.

hotrod. Sweet build. I am doing something like it. How hard it is for your kid to steer it on dirt and snow? It looks like it is pretty easy by watching the video. Here is the link to my build. I got the idea of the GB supports from your build. Great idea.

Would it be okay to run 2 motors in parallel off of a larger capacity 6V battery, or do you still recommend going to 12ga for that? I can definitely see the need for upgrading the wiring if two motors were going to be running at 12V. I have one of these and would like to know what I should do in regards to the wiring if I stick with 6V and 2 motors. Thanks in advance!

You can give it a shot, there is a good chance that it will work fine with stock wires.I just recomended 12 ga for cheap insurance and to not have to redo the wiring again, lol
I guess it really depends on what the driving conditions will be.If it will be driven on hard flat surfaces with a small driver the stock wires should be fine but if your goin offroad, uphills, with a heavy load it wouldnt hurt to upgrade the wiring to 12awg.

Thanks. I added a 2nd gearbox and motor to my Mud Warrior and left it at 6V. Unfortunately, it still crawls through the grass. I'll follow your advice of upgrading the wiring and going to 12V. Thanks!
