With minimal skills, $26 and this forum; I completed my first mod.
Fischer Price "Get Set Go Kart" Model #76790 6v to 12v (2 6v 4AH in series)
video:
Video includes: 1. Body mod to fit 2nd 6v battery 2. Tools used 3. Wiring "diagram" 4. 6v VS 12v comparison 5. Questions: - What tools / gear / supplies should be on my workbench? - Are 6" pig tails from 6v battery too long? - Is an 18v Gaucho Grande too much for a tiny 2 1/2 year old (27 lbs)? Maybe I should just keep it 12v and do full light mod until she's 3 1/2?
** EXTRA POINTS if you can name the band/song in the intro **

What model gaucho do you have? With regards to modifying there are a number of considerations including the child’s skill level and experience, environment it will be driven it and safety precautions. In a wide open area 18volts isn’t a huge issue, in a confined space with lots of obstacles it could be potentially hazardous. You will also need to remember that an 18volt Gaucho is extremely fast so catching up with it if you have to can be a challenge.
Grant, THANKS! Your Gaucho Drift vid is what got me hooked. My wife "thanks" you, too.
My Gaucho is the HP252, single 12v, no brake pedal, yr~2003?.

We live in a new community where they are building houses. There are a number of empty lots yet to be built on that have piles of dirt for tons of play; but there are also empty lots with big holes dug for basements...12 foot drops...YIKES!
Your advice is greatly appreciated. I will keep to 12v in 1st for now. Maybe install a remote kill and work on my lighting FX packages.
Question: Specs say width should be 85cm/33.5in, but the rear wheels are 36.5in wide. Should I make sure that they are not slipping off? (Also, this won't fit through my back gate at current width)

Nice video... Great narration! You sound and look just like Jason's videos - the admin of this site. Need a white rubber glove to complete the perfect impersonation though!
Action shot of it being drivin would be great! Got one?
Thanks, Bonner

Nice Gaucho, Looks in great conditions to, good score with the trailer. With regards to the age I have a theory about the licence plate number sticker showing the year it was built so if you still have that then you should be able to tell how old it is.
The last yellow Gaucho we bough was 97 which makes sense and it was an early versions that would have come out just after the recall. It has features not seen in the later models like metal sleave bearing on the wheels, the later models just use nylon etc.
Thanks for the action video. Very cute! Your action video just confirmed that I never want a Get Set Go model as it is still TOO slow for my boys according to the video.
Get her in that Gaucho and she will probably never set foot in that Get Set Go model again!
Thanks, Bonner

Bonner, Yep it is on the slow side (tiny wheels); and the in the video, the speed appears slower as I am often moving the camera with her as she pulls away. Not bad for a first kart to learn on though (for me to learn on too).
As for the Gaucho...now my wife has as much fun on it as my daughter...must learn to share.

Tell me what you think. Also have you considered putting a 12v or adding another 6v to ready set go kart to make it faster? It looks like it is a slower than the standard 12v models. I'd like my son's to be able to compete with at least those if not go faster than those here on the block. What are you thoughts on adding more volts than 12v for this Kart?
