Ok I have started my sons Gaucho upgrading but havent got a chance to do the other toys. Anyways Skylers tires were flat (I didnt know it) in his pedal bike and he ruined the tires. So I cut the tread down and used them on Haydens Gaucho. They were so tight I didnt use any glue of any sort to keep them held on. BTW I took a pic with just 1 tire on to show a comparison of before and after :D.

next I will be upgrading the battery to 18v. |

Nice work, 16” tires fit pretty snug but they don’t take long to stretch and start to come off. I found that the front wheels generally come off first as they are under a lot of stress when turning, esp if you are running 18volts. The difference when using BMX tires is amazing, they let the Gaucho go almost anywhere. When I upgraded Liam’s Gaucho to 36volts I had to run the wheels in series. To compensate I added 2 BMX tires to each rear wheel and I have not found any terrain it can not go including loose sand, wet grassy slopes or even inclined gravel surfaces.
While I do advise to add variable throttle or at the very least a separate soften brake, our Gaucho ran for almost 12months on 18volts with BMX traction bands without any of these and didn’t miss a beat.

I actually only put them on the rear for now (only had 2 on hand lol). I dont really want to glue them on for the "just in case" scenario so I may just run a couple screws in. Not sure yet though. Thanks for the tip on the stretching. I did notice a big difference today in that he did not spin out when taking off from a stop. Where did you get your variable throttle if you dont mind me asking? Did you go to like a honda dealership and buy one off one that goes on a 50cc scooter?

would those be all I need (I am still searching on info on how to do this so forgive me :D). Did some searching... What I am confused about is how I should go about adding a brake system to this? Just thinking that I should buy another pedal to mount next to the gas pedal and have it wired up to kill power to the motors.... |

If you only have 2 I would suggest putting them on the front instead. Putting additional traction to the rears only will adversely affect the steering and can contribute to accidents or other incidents.
The variable throttle is from a 36volt 40amp (750watt) scooter controller and a Hall Effect scooter twist throttle.

| I chose to use a self contained foot pedal for the separate brake however it was only rated for 15amps. In the case of the Gaucho I use the foot pedal to operate a 60amp relay which cut the power to the motors. |

I finally mounted one in a jeep the other day. I am pretty happy with the fit after a little bit of trimming. I still think that the spring is too strong but I'm going to try it stock anyway. I kind of butchered the one I took apart and it doesn't work now. |

taking it apart, seeing how it works, puting it back together so it doesnt work ever again... priceless

| Hehe, I think it's just that the hall effect sensor isn't in the right position anymore. I'll play with it at some later point. I have two more still in one piece. |

lol I* know how to post pictures I have been doing it a long time. I just forgot to resize them before posting. I will correct the links now so not to "bother" anyone else who doesnt have a big enough monitor to see them. TO me if 1024x768 is still to big its time to upgrade. BTW there is an addon that you can add [imgw]location[/imgw] that will auto create thumbnails of any pictures put between those tags. |

It's not the size of the monitor, it's how you use it.
Seriously though, I have a 21" monitor in front of me (24" should be set up in the next couple days). I typically set the 21" at 1024x768. If an image on the forums is 1024x768, the "page width" is well over 1024, and I have to scroll back and forth to read every single line of text (and I DO read every single line!). It's a total PITA to just about everyone.
I'm not alone in this thought, I've had complaints from others about scrolling (due to large images). Also, the admin runs a program that will resize any pics uploaded on this site, I believe it knocks them all down to 640 wide.
I don't think there's anything within this forum that would create thumbnails for you. Resizing is easy, and 640x480 images will get the point across just fine. |

| depends on the site. I know what site that added the vbulletin addon for creating thumbnails of pictures. Another site auto sizes all pictures posted (even if not posted to the website). If you are running a 21" at 1024x768 it must not be an LCD or your eyes are getting old :D (just picking on you :D). I have a 17" and I run it an 1280x1024 because thats the native resolution for my LCD monitor. |

| Or if you have a server, as most major ISP gives customers 5megs of web space, put the pics on there and link to that, thats what I do if I feel the picture needs to be bigger to help compensate those far sighted users with 21" monitors at 1024x768 resolution. ;) |

The 21" CRT I'm using isn't super high DPI. I notice no difference in clarity setting it at higher resolutions. I am on CAD most of the day, so I'd definitely notice if there was a difference. Our new monitors are widescreen LCD's, so I'll need a different resolution just for the different aspect ratio... they are supposed to be higher DPI also.
And I'm nearsighted, not farsighted. |

| well I was able to buy a new 12v 12ah battery for this jeep so ill have a spare 12v and 6v charged while the others are in use. Plus a 12v accessory battery. I put the GPS unit upto it and I forgot to take my camera. I was riding my pedal bike to keep up though so it prob woulda been blurry anyways lol. With that said the GPS said 10mph on an initial full charge. So now I have a 120mm led fan (gonna mount it to look like a cool radiator) and then 4 80mm fans for the motors on the back. Cause when they get hot the thing slows way down till the motors cool off again. So I am hoping this will help keep the motors cool on thes 90 degree days. |

vid shows the power of the gaucho on 18v. You can also see the blue LED fan I put on the front. its a 120mm fan. Sorry for the darkness but you can increase the brightness using whatever program you view the video on. BTW I let him do it twice and then explained to him why I dont want him to do it anymore.

| Forward/reverse slams will chew up your gearboxes pretty quickly. Driven responsibly the gearboxes should last a long, long time. We have had gaucho’s running on 18volts with BMX tires for almost 2 years without any damage to the gearboxes. |

| yeah I knew the GB's were gonna go out but by time I realized how often he was doing those wheelies (slam in rev to forward) they were already on the way out lol. So I just let him keep doing it till the GB's finally gave out. Well one gave out the other is still in "decent" condition but im replacing it anyways. I just today put the BMX tires on the front wheels. My brother had a shed with about 40 rims with the tires on them so I took a few. I shoulda grabbed some more. That was like last year and I finally got around to putting them on Haydens Gaucho and Skylers Escalade. Though on the escalade I need to find a couple more chewed up tires for the front tires but his escalade only goes 7.5 mph (according to the speed calculator on this site). But thats got another issue I need to figure out but not in this thread lol. |
