Got the fire truck repainted and put a new battery in it. Got the 12v 12ah battery from Fry's. For the most part works great. Kids love it.
How ever it has some issues maybe some one can help with.

1st gear and reverse are really weak. The truck jerks forward, then sits there and you can here the motors trying to turn. In high gear it does the same thing, but after a second or 2 it takes off and drives fine.
Maybe they're not getting enough power? I'm guessing it's the board. Where can I get a new one? Can I bypass it?

Here is a member who bypassed the board in a fire truck with relays.

Could one take a rebuild kit for say a Peg gator and use that to rewire the fire truck?

I have seen a lot of suggestions for using a PW 12v jeep harness and shifter, to rewire other vehicles. Maybe one of the more experianced members will chime in.

If the motors are working but it's not moving, could be the gearbox(s). You might want to open those up and take a look.

It's no longer a toy...

I have one of these got a brand new board from factory, put in in and nothing would work. Had power going into the board but nothing coming out. I took th 12v wiring out of a PW jeep and the shifter and replaced the stock wiring. The bad thing is you lose all of the lights. I bought a Sho-me flasher and a car alarm from harbor freight and did some replacing. I think it is faster than any of the other PW's that we have.

Man this sure is fun to do!!!

It sound like your soft-start function on the circuit board is going bad.

You could rewire the drive-train using any 12v peg or pw switch set(shifter & foot pedal). None of the stock switches can handle the amount of current(juice)used in a peg or pw wiring setup. Most people prefer to use a pw shifter, because the peg shifters reverse function is spring loaded and requires the child to hold it while backing up.

A hardware changeover would require a bit of ingenuity on your part to get the new shifter and foot pedal to fit, but it's fairly easy to wire up if you use parts and harness from a donor toy. However, you will lose the stock key ON/OFF switch function along with the stock accessories (lights and PA) if working, unless you add a relay along with some other minor wiring to power it.

In other words, if your not going to use the stock key switch and accessories, wire it like the FAQ drawing on the left. If your stock key-switch and accessories work, and you would like to merge the two systems together so that everything functions like it did with the circuit board installed, use the modified FAQ drawing on the right. Just remember, if you wish to run 18v on the drive-train make sure the red wire from the stock wiring harness stays on a fused 3 to 5 amp 12v tap.

BTW:
The modified FAQ drawing on the right should work with any kid Trax or Safety First toy using one of these circuit boards.

Wow you guys make this sound so easy!
Right now I think I'm going to drive it until it quits, then rewire it like 12VWIZ suggested. I'm going to start gathering parts to totally redo this after Christmas.
Thanks for all the help!
