Honestly, part of the answer is "the best one you can get without paying full price".

If you are going to modify it, you are throwing away the most valuable part of buying a brand new one. The warranty.

My advise would eb to take a look on your local ebay and craigslist and see what is lurl=king in your part of the world.
Ebay in particular gives you a little while to run the ad up the flagpole here and see what advise you get.

Modifying it after that is pretty simple and straightforwards. Obviously you will be after something that is mechanically good (gearboxes and motors intacts), NOT running Super6 motors, cosmetically suitable (lights and lenses all present and vehicle un-chewed by puppies).

Do not worry about sourcing one with a "good working battery", you are going to be buying batteries anyway, you may as well buy a coplete new set and that way know that they all had the same starting line for use.

Beyond that, it is a matter of size/space available, terrain to be used on, one or two seater, personal preferences in terms of body styles etc.

I had a tiny little cheap chinese quad with 8inch diameter wheels running at 25km/h at 36volts and able to fly across and up any sort of terrain. So you can essentially upgrade and do anything with anything, as long as you want to fiddle with it till you get it right.

As a general rule, if you see a Peg Perago vehicle, it is going to be superior to a Powerwheels brand. If you buy a chinese knockoff, plan on rewiring from scratch, but otherwise, many of them are excellent base-vehicles.

Some brands run everything through circuit boards, this makes upgrading the voltage a bit tricky if you do not want to tear out and re-wire from scratch again (not difficult, by the way).

Good hunting.

Alex.

Colbert: So the AK-47 is like the Windows platform of guns, it's everywhere.

Pike: No, no. It's MUCH more reliable than that.

fortis said all great stuff.

I would just add 2 years old is pretty young for super speed imo if the child doesn't already have experience driving and good motor skills.

If you only care about fast. I would look for a car or something with smooth tires and plan on driving on pavement. Also plan on investing in a helmet if you are going for ultimate speed. The car with a child sitting lower to the ground and having them more enclosed would be safer than 4 wheeler or something they could fall off of.

Yeah, it's all my 2 year old can do to keep her Super6 Jeep from smashing into everything in sight! I wouldn't build anything with extreme speed for anyone under like 4 or so, unless they are pretty experienced.

Current Fleet:
Super6 Vette, Grave Digger w/ 19T's, Gaucho Grande, Dora Lil Quad, Eliminator w/ 21T's, 12v Harley, Safety 1st C5R

Scrap Pile (email for parts):
High Torque Gaucho, Red PW Jeep

haha yea my son is 2 and i have him running a lil kfx on 18v and bmx tires for traction bands. that thing is pretty fast and he loves it. he can even do wheelies on it.. so ya it all depends on how much exp your kid has on these things...

They can maybe handle the speed, but they are pretty unaware of the suroundings. Drive on a safe place with lot of SPACE i you go for superspeed. Recomend to go with scooter controllers as soon as posible. That way they can control the speed softly. Costs the litle extra, but hey, they love it and you save their litle necks at the same time with soft start.
