Hello all! New guy here. I am interested in giving my son’s F150 a little more speed. It currently only has forward and reverse. I’ve been reading the forums for days prior to posting since I hate to ask an ill-informed question, but here I go anyway.
It sounds like all I need to do is get a 12v batter, cut off the connectors and wire a 30amp fuse on the positive side then wire what is left into the old batter connector. Is that correct?
What about charging? Can I use the same charger?
Also what is the importance of the amph? Is it voltage or amph that gives me the speed?

If your current 6v red battery is good, just add a 2nd one. The super6 vehicles on 12v go pretty fast and my kids love them.
The voltage is what gives you speed, the "AH" is what gives you drive time. |

Do I still need a fuse if I use that type of wiring?
Also how can I test my current battery? |

If you use stock PW batteries, you don't need to add a fuse. If you use aftermarket batteries, you must add a fuse.
A volt meter is a good way to test your battery. They aren't that expensive. |

| It depends on which generation of F-150 you have. The ones my kids had (2nd generation) did have two seat positions but even with the seat back it got tight on space at 5 or 6 years old. |

Maybe I missed it but adding a second 6v for speed, the 2 6v will have to be wired in series to create 12v. The wiring and motors in the f150 should be OK. As for the seat...I cut the rear/lower part of the seat base off and that allowed me to move the seat rearward. Not too much or you will expose the the lower compartment to the weather.
You can't use the stock 6v charger to charge a single 12v but you can use it to charge the 2 6v. Just hook them up in parallel and charge them both at the same time. |

| I switched the connector of our F150 to the 12V end and it's quick on 12 volts. We've had great luck with getting speed out of the super 6's. We currently run super 6/12 volts on our F150, Dora Jeep, Big Foot, and Big Jake. All single seaters, but they're light and go fast. |

| If the stock 12v pw's go 5, then 7mph sounds about right. |

| I put a 12v 8AH Gruber battery in our 6v F150 and it is as fast as the 18v Lambo with Titan 550 motors. The only problem is that it is so light in the rear it spins the tires like crazy! My 6yo loves to do doughnuts with it! |

I just put 12V in our F150 and it was pretty fast. I didn't intend to make a project out of this one but couldn't resist. I'll get a speed reading on it soon to provide another data point.
Wire and motors were warm but not hot after 45 minutes of operation on a warm day.
I didn't do anything but put another battery in but I am probably going to make it two speed with slow reverse. My son popped it directly into reverse and blew the 30A fuse I had inline.

Anybody of have a picture of a super 6 wired like this for more speed or point me in the direction of one. Pictures are much easier for me to understand. |

I didn't intend to make a project out of this one but I couldn't help myself. Currently it simply has 2 6V batteries installed in series using quick connect terminals (with electrical tape over them). I plan to make a more permanent setup and use thicker wire.
Here is where I cut the hole and used some rivets and webbing to make a new battery spot. I used a dremel tool and the hole is just big enough.

Here is what I use to hold the battery. I have a Werker battery and a power wheels battery in this vehicle. It fits in snug. When I redo it I'll probably put some kind of a strap over both batteries, but they are pretty well secured for now.

I took some measurements with my F150 running on pavement using GPS and a current clamp meter.
Running 6V (6.5 unloaded)
2.8 mph pulling 5.2A
Running 12V (13.08 unloaded)
6.5 mph pulling 10.0A
So it looks like it more than doubled. I took some other current measurements but I'll put them in another post. |

It's stock and I'm pretty sure it's super6 motors. It's a 1 seater F150 that we bought new last November and it ran 6V stock, with only forward and reverse. |

The pictures aztracks posted helped, but I don't really understand this set up yet.
What changes do you make to the stock fischer price 6v battery so that another 6v can be added to it?
I do like with that set up you still use the original connection that runs to the motor. What are the pros and cons of using one 12v battery vs two 6 volt batteries with one of them being the original stock battery?
I have seen a video on how to take out the connector in a bad fisher price battery, but not how to modify a working one like this. |
