SUMMARY: I received a response to an online ad asking for people to give me their old/broken ride-ons, instead of putting them in the trash. The responder said he had a whole garage full...
 (courtesy of Ricam78)
It's going to take me some time to determine which parts I will have left-over, after making whole vehicles.
1) Dibs on whole vehicles so far:
- ricam78 - Extreme Machine
- litwicked - Power Wheels Classic
2) Dibs on extra parts so far (if not needed for whole vehicles):
- Sawblade - Silverado drive-train, steering wheel
- car81 - Extreme Machine wheels, 19T GBs
- Gambler - Quad mudflaps
- wrencher - Quad wheels
- NSAELLIS - 14" Barbie Beach Patrol wheels
3) Anybody interested in buying bulk parts?
Thanks!

Haha. No, he said they were PowerWheels and Peg authorized. Not sure if that means there may be new parts too?
EDIT: But he did say that they also had stuff like that, and bicycles, etc. |

Hopefully he will have a bunch of replacement gearboxes, you could make some of your money back, just on those. Also anything discontinued including wheels, like VW Dune Beetle, Bigfoot, Grave Digger etc. Anything Peg will sell also, especially the SP gearboxes or anything cool like that. You will know what to look for when you get there. I believe in you. |

I need gaucho parts like CB microphone, coil wire, cassette tape and pull out storage tray. That would complete my restore project on the john deere off road 4x4 gaucho. Help if you can. Thanks!! |

Thanks for the heads-up on GBs!
I noted the Beetle, BigFoot, GD, Peg products (even the small stuff?).
I know some stuff to look for, but I'm trying to be better prepared. I'm not sure how accessible this 'garage' is going to be. He said they are stacked about 10 feet high, and I doubt he'll want to spend the time waiting for me to go through everything. This first meeting will just be a reconnaissance mission, but I want to be sure I'm getting all of the important info.
Thanks for the tips!

Gotcha Sawblade! I'll be looking for ANY Goucho items.
I'm not getting my hopes up too high. Since they were in the business, it's doubtful that they are going to have mint condition Goucho SPs lying around and not know that they are valuable. In fact, I'm not expecting to find any whole, working vehicles besides maybe some lil quads or something. But he did say they had cars, trucks, JEEPs, go-carts types, and mentioned that they were, at one time, authorized for Power Wheels, Peg Perego, and another brand (I forget now). I'm hoping that maybe some of these are just a few parts shy of whole, or maybe just have a few really good parts. It's not likely that I will get the whole lot, unless somebody here has an interest in a truck-load, but hopefully he will be willing to just have what I take out of his way.

I see you've already got "small parts" on there, but specifically I'd suggest you keep an eye out for hoods and tailgates for Bigfoots/F-150's, and hoods for Silverados. Those always seem to be missing, and in demand.

Sounds like the deal of a lifetime! I'd go several hours for a truckload.....unfortunetly, Texas is beyond my insanity level! .
Waitng for the pics!
I would agree with most of the advise so far. Gearboxes are big, hoods, seats and other parts that are "removable" (and always seem to be removed). "take along" soundboxes. |

Ah yes, sound-boxes/radios.
And maybe any 'clear' windshields and headlight lenses...?

Gotcha!
I should have that covered by 'All Peg ride-ons' and 'Beetles', but good point about doors/moveable components. I'm gonna consoldate a lot of that into "Moveable/removeable components".

Yes, chargers! Good call!
I wouldn't have thought to look for those, and they would likely be in a box or something that I might not pay attention to.

Just got back with pics. Only found one Peg (Gator), and couldn't get to it to assess the condition very well. No chargers or good batteries. Very few complete vehicles (if any). Lots of pedal cars mixed in with them. I just dug into the stack enough to try and get basic pics of everything.
Tell me what you think!

This was some type of promotional car. It is very tiny. I'm not sure a toddler could fit into it, but it's battery powered!?!

Anybody know what this is? It looks like a pedal-car, but is battery-powered. The sticker on the front says "Power Wheels Classic". |

Yeah the guy is kind of hard to read. When I first got there, he said "Load up whatever you want!", but as I was leaving he said "Make me an offer for all of it."!?!

I found two Silverados. One looked like the drive-train was there, but the body was pretty crushed (kind of shown in pics 12 & 13), the other had a good body and no rear wheels/axle(pic 6 & 9).
I'm trying to figure out if it's worth hauling all of these back and stripping/combining them, or if I just need to get certain ones. He wants the space, so he's not gonna want me to just take parts. |

That's a tough call. It sure looks like a lot of parts could be used but it would be a lot of work too. If you have the time you could make some money. I would buy the drive-train out of the Silverado and the steering wheel for spares for Sawblade. |

WOW! Thats a lot of power wheels jammed in there. I agree with Sawblade, it would be a lot of work getting them all and parting them and selling, but you can make a nice profit from it all depending on your time. I see lots of metal framed Jeeps too! I would be interested in that Xtreme Machine, but I am not sure when I could head your way. I honestly think you can make more of a profit parting it though! Looked like it was a pretty interesting day you had. I bet you didnt know what to expect when that door swung open! Tell him that you can clear it all out in one day, even sweep up the floors for him to get him his storage space back and you will even throw in a case of his favorite beer. |

Yeah I'm scratching my head here. I have a feeling that this is going to come down to me taking everything for free, or making him an offer for part of it.
Either way, I'll probably try to make whole, working vehicles where I can, then part out what's left. But, with no batts or chargers, they would be hard to move, and buying batts and chargers would make them too expensive.
I do have you down for first dibs though if I part it! |

Tell him that you can clear it all out in one day, even sweep up the floors for him to get him his storage space back and you will even throw in a case of his favorite beer.
Yeah there are probably 6 or 7 MF JEEPs, maybe 10 unibody, and a couple of one-seaters.
I'm not really sure that there would be much worth shipping on the Extremes except wheels and seats, and he also has a partial one with those parts. I forgot to take a pic (and not having any luck Googling it), but he has a small pedal-car Extreme Machine that's really cute. It's made by Fisher Price, and has the same roll-cage/door, color combo, etc.
I'll try and get the EM for you, and we can meet up later. Maybe we can work something out for the tractor, or something I want to buy in Houston, and meet half-way or something. We'll figure something out, but I'll make sure it's included (probably both of them) in whatever I get. |

I agree with ricam78. That sounds like a good plan. What do you think jparthum? Will the wife go for it? |

He had this one in a seperate garage (with his expensive toys), so I think he knows that it has some value. I won't be able to get any more pics until (if) I get it, but I will keep you posted. |

Well, if they are free, she'll probably be OK with it.
But even then, I've got some logistics to work out;
- Need to borrow (or actually buy, since I'm always needing one) a trailer
- Probably need to recruit a buddy to come help me
- Need to get pallets and tarps to store them in the yard
- Or, need to take the time to pull the electrical components, and leave the bodies in the weather
- Need to somehow add more days to the week to accomplish all of this

I love the last logistical issue you have. That was pretty funny. If I were closer I would help you out too. I do think though that if the headache is too large, the project isnt worth it at all. Maybe the haul can help you pay for a used trailer after the parting though. Even then, it is still a pain to do it all. You have to think, what can I get out of all this work in the end and then decide. |

Right, exactly!
That's why I'm scratching my head.
Another issue I left out, is processing these parts/payments/shipping in order to even get anything out of this. One idea I'm pondering, is seeing if someone like Hootie would want to buy some of the smaller parts in bulk, then part them from his store. Or maybe even some kind of consignment arrangement, where he can sell them first. I'm looking at all angles.
EDIT: Oh, and then I have find enough pools to get rid of all the bodies in! |

Who needs pools. You are just a stones throw from good ole Sabine Lake! Actually, I think my company is working out of Sabine Pass right now. Hmmm...Maybe I can get there somehow...
What I would do is do the math. Get a ballpark count of how many powerwheels you saw. Figure that you can sell the old classic one and the wienermobile one and any other not to normal one. Then figure 2 gearboxes for each of the rest at about $8 each, tires at around $20 each, hoods or other small parts at maybe 15 each per vehicle. Those werent including any shipping costs, but you would have to spend a lot of time at the post office! Those numbers could be higher or lower, I was just throwing a number out there. If I had the time and space, space being a bigger problem, because there really isnt a huge rush to part, I would do it, as it would mean a lot of learning experience with parts and also a lot of parts and pieces to put together one cool and perfect working metal framed project when all is done. Again, I am sure you have a buddy that will work for his favorite brew as we all do. I guess the big question is how much does the old fella want for it all. If he wont let it go for free then this is all a waste of your time and patience. Tell him to call a cleaning service and pay them a couple hundred to take them to the dump for him if he says he wants $. |

My close buddy is lead designer over that big LNG project (CB&I)!
I hadn't actually broken it down quite that far yet. I did roughly count close to 50 vehicles, but not many are whole. I really just want to come out with some more toys and parts, and break even. I'm starting with trying to figure my costs (paying the dump, time off from work, beer , etc.). Then what I might get out of it. I don't mind doing the work, I love any excuse to work outside. But being self-employed, anytime I'm not working has a cost associated with it, because I can work anytime and make money.
Every time he has mentioned taking the whole lot, I've told him I can't do that. But if that's what makes it cost-effective then I may do it, if he'll do it for free. But I'm prepared to walk away at any time, so y'all don't get your hopes up too high!
EDIT: Oh BTW, are you wanting MF JEEP too? |
