ok so i found a 6v barbie jeep on criagslist, she only wants 10 bucks for it.
my question is, is it worth it for me to get a 6v, i would want to make it at least 12 but probably 18, and if i do that, will i have to change the motors on it sense it is only a 6v.
if this is a dumb question, forgive me, i am just starting to get into the whole pw thing.

| If you put some 21t's and put it on 18v, it will almost fly.... might just have to ad some wings. |

i took it all apart tonight to get it cleaned up and preped for paint....
anyone have any tips to preping the plastic for painting? what type of paint....etc...
oh and any color sugestions?? it will be for my 3 yr old daughter. where should i get replacement stickers? and what else do i need if i left anything out.

Nice, I would hate to see how slow that thing is on 6v in low gear...
Just wash it, with dish soap and water... make sure not to touch it after you wash it. The oils from your hands can mess up the paint.... Then you can go over it with anything that has amonia or rubbing alcohol...
I would recommend Krylon Fusion for plastics.... it is the best way to go for beginners.
You can also get Plastic Primer or Adhesion Promoter then on top of that use any kind of paint. |

Wow - 6v AND locked in low? Must crawl along slower than a Lil Quad!
Once the stickers are off, how bad is the fading? Maybe just buff the plastic out with some 3M rubbing compound and bring it back to pink and silver? Does she have any favorites you could use for stickers instead of Barbie?

No thats not bad, after I found the site I went driving around on Bulk Trash Day and found 8 in one night.
You will know when you have it bad... when you stop spending time with your family to work on Power Wheels, or your wife threatens divorce... or even if your family has an intervention for you and tries to take you to rehab.
Its not a bad idea to sand, but if you do enough coats I dont think it will show, unless it is raised where the stickers were. If you do sand, make sure you clean it really well. It will probably take you 3 cans, or more depending on the color scheme you pick.
Also might want to check hobbymasters.com or mendingshed.com for sticker sheets... if they are still available.

has anyone every painted the purple tires black...does it look good...how bad does the black wear off. what about painting the wheels w\ that truck bedliner stuff. i still have some of that left over, it wouldn't come off as easy, and would probably give a little better traction. ??
i was thinking about ordering these rims does anyone know if they will fit?
or does anyone have any of that style rims and tires that u wanna sell and ship to me? |

Anything you spray on yourself is going to come right off. It's pretty much all been tried, bedliner over plastic primer or adhesion promoter, etc. As soon as the wheels hit hard surfaces, it just scrapes right off. There isn't any better traction really since the area of the wheels that hits the pavement gets scraped off almost immediately. I sprayed these wheels with adhesion promoter, and then bed liner, and the white was showing within seconds.

Some folks think it looks kinda cool where it scrapes off.
There are some thoughts that a professional spray on liner like Rhino would adhere better, but no one's tried it to my knowledge.

I don't think those hub caps will fit the style of wheel you currently have. |

If you must wet sand the color coat then do it with 1500-2000 and BE CAREFUL you will still go through very easily unless you're experienced. Just make it smoother. The clear coat is where you make it a glass finish on cars, sanding the color coat gets the nibs away and makes it smooth.

I'm not big on painting in general, mainly because I'm so anal about it, so I aways try to make it look as smooth as possible. On these I'm not after the mirror shine, but I can't stand orange peel, ripples, runs, etc. in a paint finish. |

yeah i am very anal about it...i find myself fixing stuff that no one else would even see...but i know that its there....
oh well....i didn't wet sand...i just cleared it, then the clear looked really filmy...i found another thread on it where somoeone else had the same problem, i thought about just wetsanding then buffing, but spray paint doesn't lay down as thick as paint that you would use on a car. so i just repainted it w\ the pink and im not gonna clear it.
i'll be starting to put it back together tonight, so i'll try to get some pics. |

ok so im about done....all wired up 24v...im sure i'll burn up the gears pretty quick...but that'll just give me an excuse to get new ones.....not quite done w\ the wheels yet though.....as you can see in one of the below pics, the front tire is very close to the front bumper...i can put some spacers in but then they stick out really far....so im guessing that my next step would be a lift...
what do i need for the lift kit...about how much will it cost me, or can i fabricate it myself?....anyone know of a thread that shows it, and how to install front and rear? and im not talking about a really high lift where i would have to use metal rods or anything...just a standard lift.
anyway heres the pics.
