Got this body for free, brand spankin' new a while back. (See 'OMFG' thread.) Oh, sorry... I mean OM*G.

I've slowly been bringing in parts to complete it.

I have to take new pictures, but I've so far picked up 4 new wheels, new racks, winch, seat, etc...

I'll be installing a charging port like I did in the 2X, and I'm planning out headlights on the front grill. I"ll light up the tail light too, of course. Not sure what else I want to do here. The body is mint, so paint is not needed at the moment. If it does become necessary, it'll go camo. Maybe add a gun case?

For voltage, the plan is 18. Chloe likes to ride this mostly in grass, gravel, and dirt so I'm debating the BMX tire mod, but I just bought the new wheels and they're still shiney. Maybe I'll wait on that.

Anyway, figured I'd finally post something for this thing. I'll have pics to come.

I finished the front lights today. Using the same LEDs I used for the tailights on the lil pink jeep, I slapped 5 of them on a breadboard for each light. Drilled holes in the plastic and mounted them from the back.

I used foil as a reflector, because, well... that's about all I had on hand.

I think I'll be adding a few more in the main headlight assembly on the handlebar. Chloe says she wants flashy light on this too. I like the safety aspect of them (half the reason I install lights on most of her vehicles anyway) but I don't know if this needs strobes.

Tore apart the main headlight assembly today. Pulled out the 1/2 watt bulb in there and installed 3 10mm white leds. Forgot to take piucs of that part.
Replaced the pushbutton switch that turns the bulb on for 30 seconds with a rocker switch, wired to a 12v 3.6ah battery to turn on all the lights. I still have to install some lights in the tail. I'll have to take some night pics this evening. I think these are going to be pretty bright.

I've been thinking about installing a battery gauge in the speedometer spot.

Thanks, Eric. It's been a busy summer. It is a shame that the only time I have to work on the PWs is when it's cold out. Makes the non-indoor modding much less comfortable.

sdubb, on the handlebar assembly, below the speedometer spot there are two tab like indents on the black part. Push those in, and the red top should pop off. Once you get the top up halfway, you'll have to push some tabs for the front light lens.

To get the handlebars off, reach up inside the battery compartment to the top of the steering column. There are two pushbuttons on the sides. Push those in, and pull up on the handlebars.

Just bought a charge meter from eBay. I wanted something functional to fill the void in the handlebar assembly.

It should resemble something like this when I receive and install...

Picked up some supplies for this. Received my state of chrge gauge yesterday and got that all figured out (with some help) and today I picked up another charging port, and an ignition switch and relay.

Since it's 17 degrees out, I don't think I'll be working on it today.

I used the same charging port in the 2X that is at my parents' house and it's working out well.

There is going to be a lot of wiring for the rest of it. I think I'll load it up in the truck and take it to work one of these days and work on it in my spare time. And if I get tired of walking across the shop everyday, I may just ride it to my desk.

Took it to work today to use the nice warm (and well equiped) shop to do the wiring.

Installed a keyed ignition, tail light, charging port, and put a connector in the steering column so I can remove the handle bar assembly since it doesn't fit in my truck with it on.

Gonna hit you up with some more questions.

Are you only running it at 12V? (that's what the diagram looks like)

Is this peg like the others where you have to hold reverse to go backwards?

Does it seem slow? I have all my rides (bigger tires) running 19T and they do circles around this quad.

Anyway I ask these questions because I ripped the wiring out because I hated the pedal to make it go. My kid ran over his foot trying to climb on it. I cut a whole in the top for a forward reverse switch and put a thumb throttle push button.

Yes

Kind of. In high, she moves pretty good. I have to keep at a brisk walking pace to keep up. I'll most likely go 18v this summer.

I agree with the location of the foot switch. That's the main reason I installed the keyed ignition. She can step wherever she wants when it's off.

Oh yeah I didn't even think about the key switch I can see how that would help.

How does she do when she has to drive in reverse holding the shifter and steering with one hand?

She fails. I need to figure out a way to lock the reverse so she doesn't have to lean over and drive one handed.

Sorry, Aggie. Missed this post. I got it at NAPA Auto Parts. Look in the trailer hitch/lights section. You can use nearly any connector, but I like this one for the spring-loaded flip down cover.

Just curious if that charging port on the side is going to tear up your daughter's knees/thigh? You may need to lay some neoprene over it??

The port is either far enough forward, or she's just short enough that it doesn't seem to get in the way. There aren't really any sharp edges on it either. Not to mention she stands most of the time while riding.

Figure out how to get it to stay in reveres with out holding it yet? My son is only 2 and use to ride and old pw kawi ninja with the reveres set and could steer like a pro backing up. but I just picked him up a polaris and he isn't strong enough to steer one handed. Let me know if you have any ideas. I was wondering if I just took out the spring, if that would work. Nice ride btw.

Never messed with it. She's got the hang of it now. I believe the switch in the shifter assembly is a momentary, so replacing the switch with an off-on I think might work, but I've never bothered to tear one apart to find out.

Chloe spent part of the weekend helping with the gardening, pulling the wagon behind the Polaris, hauling leaves and brush to the back of the property. She gets such a sense of pride by helping haul stuff.

Tell me about it. My son has only had the polaris 2 days and he is having a blast helping do yard work. I am going to take the switch apart tomorrow. he has a hard time steering it while holding the shifter. I will try and remember to take pics to post the mod if it works.

With the big yard we have now, one battery wasn't cutting it. Installed a second 12v 12ah in parallel with the first for double the fun. The neighbor girls hop in the attached wagon and Chloe drives them around with all their dolls.

Plans this fall for a wiring overhaul to 10awg and possible motor fans. This poor thing has been getting quite the workout lately. Also have to figure out why the powered winch doesn't like to work all the time. I wonder if there isn't a relay problem somewhere. I have 6 in this bad boy (I know - I'm no jparthum) along with the RF 2CH receiver for the winch.

Next on the list is to tackle the Gaucho.

This is great! A lot of the same things I would like to do with my daughters Polaris 800.
I am by NO means an electrician, although I should be with all the wiring that runs through the aircraft I work on, but I am trying to match the wiring to your diagram and see where some of it jumps from one stud to the next with a short "jumper". I am trying to find where it does this on your wiring diagram.
Thanks in advance. And again, just awesome!!

The jumpers are implied in the diagram, linked by color. The pinkish-red is all jumped together on a single block, etc. The pink is all +12 distribution when the key is on. White is just a connection point. Grey is all -12.

The far left terminal block in the photo is actually upside down in comparison to the corresponding block on the right side of the diagram. (just learning left from right apparently)

The TB on the left of the diagram, the pink is switched +12 from the accessory battery & left relay.

I also omitted the switch to the right of the voltmeter.

Sorry. Terminal Block

I hate typing long words more than once, so I tend to abbreviate, and just hope people know what in the world I'm talking about.

I should edit this schematic and include the jumbled mess of wiring and relays for the powered RC winch, too.

Thanks. You said TB and because of my background with cars I was stuck on Throttle Body and my aviation mindset was stuck on Technical Bulletin.

I really need to pick one hobby and stick to it.

Sorry, Aggie. Missed this post. I got it at NAPA Auto Parts. Look in the trailer hitch/lights section. You can use nearly any connector, but I like this one for the spring-loaded flip down cover.

Do you know any sites aside from NAPA? I don't like NAPA service that much. Thanks

Most any auto parts store should carry something like this. Look for the section with trailer hitches and lights. You'll find a variety of wiring options.

This one is still 12v, yes. Two 12s in parallel for double the fun.

I agree, the shifter is hard for the kids to run, hard to get to, hard to get out, and hard to service.

If I had to make a suggestion, I'd say build a small box on the outside of the sifter location and adapt a gaucho shifter somehow.

I wouldn't do mine on 24v (with stock motors anyway), just because it's all hills and grass around here. No pavement riding anymore. I MAY go 18v after I rewire it completely.

What about foregoing the stick shifter and using the push-button H/L and F/R switches as found in the wranglers? You could mount them just about anywhere. This would also eliminate the 'hold lever for reverse' problem.

Rewired and reinforced the winch yesterday. I was going to take a video of it pulling the polaris across the driveway, but the dang RF module is still only working half the time. Cheap Chinese crap. I installed a manual switch and it will pull itself. It's rather impressive. I'll get a video soon.
