We found a Dale Earnhardt Sr. "power wheel" type car on craigslist for $25 and was wondering who makes it. I've tried looking online and found nothing. We want to read up on it before we decide to get it. Here are a couple of pics:

Wow, thats a nice find. I dont know who makes it, but you can always swap out whatever it has for Power Wheels parts. I would jump on that for 25... but then again, this is coming from a Dale Sr. fan.

They are made my AMAV. They use very large 85:1 ratio gearboxes and are capable of very high performance.
In our drag races the 18volt AMAV Nascar beat our 24volt PW jeep. We are now running the AMAV at 24volts where it can hit 25kph/15.5mph.

It is important to not that you will need to soften the braking system if you are looking at upgrading the performance or you will suffer gearbox failure

Wow thanks for all the info! We're picking it up at noon :) I'm a HUGE Dale Earnhardt fan so this was probably right up there with the Gaucho find. Turbokev I saw your remodel of the Jeff Gordon car a while back and was awe struck. It looks so much better with the new paint I'll post more pics later when we get it back here and look it over.

When you go to get it, check the steering carefully.
Turn the wheel back and forth and if it pops and seems to skip, or if the steering wheel is not 'centered' when the wheels are straight, look for this gear at the bottom of the shaft:

Mine was chewed up and made driving the car near impossible..
Not easy to find a replacement unless you find a second parts car like I did.

I wouldn't shy away from buying a Dale Sr. car just because the gear is bad mind you, but maybe you can get it for $10

Also, I notice one of the hood pins is missing..

I have an extra 'flush mount' one that will match the one you have.
I'll drop it in the mail next time I'm at the post office~

Thanks,
Kev

looks like those gearboxes are going on a personal vehicle, and i hadnt checked out the steerin yet either.makes me feel better about the 700 dollar speakers in box that i traded for 13 parts cars. they were all incomplete in some way. I picked up the speakers for 140, so averaged out 11 a parts car, a lil high, but those gear boxes sound good, and the windsheild i cut down for my lambo-see lambo windsheild topic for more pics, more to come 2nite, sanding and painting now.

We FINALLY got the Dale Sr. Car and man it is cool looking! Both front hood pins are missing and 2 of the plastic bolts that holds the sides on are gone (if anyone has these please let me know)!
Turbokev I checked the steering gear and it looks good and the steering is good- so thanks for the info on that!
Also we picked up a 1989 Kransco Big Foot that works and just needs a battery- will post picks! I don't know which one I like best
I'll post pics tomorrow!

I dug up a pair of hood pins for the front Jen.. Unfortunately I don't have the nuts that go on the plastic bolts but I'll send the bolts anyways in case you can find something that fits.

Can you PM me your address again?
I don't see it in my email from the last time you got something~

Thanks!

For $20 I figured I would be lucky with it coming with wheels! I've seen a couple of the Bigfoots on craigslist for atlest $60 so when this one popped up I grabbed it. Everything works so the guy who sold it just didn't take the time to change the batteries
The Dale car seems to have foot pedal problem. I'm gonna try cleaning the contacts real good. Anybody have this problem? ALSO that was a 2 amp fuse in the little compartment by the shifter- what could that possibly be for????

That little setup by the shifter can be maddening..

Has to be pushed down tight for the car to work.. sometimes it will slip in to 1 wheel drive too..

I am at the point where I am just going to rewire the whole thing with my own harness and eliminate all that extra stuff..

BTW.. sending package tomorrow.. 2 hood pins AND I found a pair of the plastic bolts WITH nuts you need..

Thanks,
Kev

Sounds like a good idea with the wiring. Thanks again for the extras, my daughter likes to pull the hood off and examine the batteries! Like mother, like daughter- very proud.
Still working on the getting the pedal out to clean everything, but I have found the #3 car is not very "take apart and fix me" friendly Oh well i like it anyways.

The 2amp fuse is for the charger.

Below is a circuit diagram of the AMAV Speed Rider with an 18volt NOS button upgrade. While it is modified it should give you some idea of the stock wiring.
