This was the second battery car we got earlier this year thanks to a find on the curb on trash day.. It's been sitting in the garage since then with both kids enjoying "pretending' to drive it.

I took it apart yesterday and got it running fine with some basic cleaning and the battery connector replaced to the newer PW style.
I had plans to paint it up like Dale Jr's National Guard #88 car but when I saw what Marcos Ambrose is driving this weekend at Pocono, I had to change my mind..
I'm a huge sim racing fan, been racing other people from around the world on the computer for 20 years now.. it was pretty primitive over modems back in the beginning but nowadays it's pretty incredible. I've built a complete simulator at home with it's own high power PC and 28" hi def monitor.. Since early last year I've been involved exclusively with "iRacing"..
You can check it out at www.iracing.com if you have any interest at all..
Well, iRacing is sponsoring Marcus for this one race..He finished 6th at Pocono earlier this year so hopefully he will do well again. I'm pretty sure we'll be the only people in the worls with a battery operated Marcus Ambrose iRacing car LOL..
Here's the look I'm going for~

and here's the base coat of blue and white so far.. Hope to add the red and decals tomorrow.. I'd love to have it looking half way decent and drivable by Sunday so I can post it on the iRacing forums for a laugh~

I've got most of the stickers done.. still need to do the actual #47
Going to work on that now~

Nice find, those AMAV Power riders have a lot of potential. The only advice I would give is to replace the braking resistors to reduce braking force if you upgrade to 18 or 24volts. Also make sure you retail the traction bans as excessive wheel spin can cause the axel/wheels to melt.
I can’t wait to see the final product.

Thanks, hoping to finish it today..
Taz..
Staples sells a pack of paper that are sticker sheets for about $10.00
I search Google for the image I want then I paste that image in to a Word document. Once it's pasted, you can double click the image and another box will open that has a 'size' tab. Click that and you can adjust the size of the image..it displays in inches so you can take something that isn't even close and tailor it to fit.
Here's a sheet I did for one of our Extreme Machine GoKarts..

Those gauge images were about 2.5 inches in diameter and I needed about 1.75 for the GoKarts so I reduced them in Word and they came out fine..
(picture is blurry but you get the idea)

Some images work better than others.. the original resolution matters because if you blow up a small low res image, it getts pretty fuzzy by the time it's 8 or 10 inches wide..

Thanks, Kev

Sounds like a job for one of our printers!! Too bad they're commercial printers. You could always use the sticker type lamination paper, the edges would still bleed if they got wet. IIRC Testors makes a water slide decal kit, it includes fixative.

I'll make it a seperate post..
(keep in mind this is just paper based stickers, no vinyl..so if they get wet, they don't hold up well)

Car update..(really, I'll finish someday)
Put the electronics back together, put the seat in, and added the rest of the stickers and pinstripes. Still need to change out the broken steering gear from the parts car I got from Adam this weekend..
I know the wheels should be silver..I'll get to them at some point too~

BTW.. The iRacing car ran in the top 7 all day at Pocono till eventual impatient winner Denny Hamlin turned David Ruetiman right into Marcus Ambrose trashing both their cars.. Nice move Denny.

I was wondering where in hell Marcus Ambose had got to lately. Racing around here is much quieter without him....
Great job on the car, by the way.

Thought I'd post the 'under the hood' shots of how I rigged the 12V PW battery to work..
WARNING.. VERY GHETTO MOD AHEAD
I cut the leads under the hood and added female spade connectors. Also had to cut the floorboard a bit and add a plastic strap to hold the grey style battery securely in place.

Did the same thing coming off a regular grey PW battery and plug..

Then I just connect them with mini 30 amp automotive fuses..

Here's a side shot of the battery clipped in place behind the floor plastic and under the strap.. Stays right in place.

Car is still running and driving fine.. it's getting lots of use~

I know there are many ways to do this better, but we have 6 working cars and only 2 really good batteries (a third that's just OK) so this method of connecting them to the cars with the fuses makes it easy and adds a safegaurd at the same time. There was a heavyset 10 year old over Monday that took our Gaucho for a spin and sure enough, it popped a fuse going up a hill.. Took 10 seconds to pop in another fuse and the Jeep was back in action.
Works for me~
