This is my second Powerwheels Mod Project. I had this 1990 Suzuki Quad Runner sitting in my garage for 2 years and decided 2 weeks ago to strip it down and rebuild it for my 4yr old son.

This is the quad original.

I Stripped all the parts off. Refinished all the metal and the main wiring harness.I Gave it some new paint. Added 2 Super6 Motors to the rebuilt gear boxes and added 2 12v 12ah Batteries from a electric scooter. The quad now has some great speed with decent looks to go along with it.

IT TOOK 2 DAYS TO SAND ALL OF THE BAD PLASTIC OFF THE SUN DRIED OUT

Well that is most of it. I have to add the final touches to it. My son put 45 minutes on it this morning and its running great.

When 18V is to slow...Time to go to 50cc quads

It was a lot of sanding. I painted it with Valspar Yellow Plastic paint but my cell camera is terrible. My only problem was that it blew a 15Amp inline fuse, So i put a 25Amp in and it has been fine. 25Amp too much?

Here is two more pictures after it got some dirt on it!

Looks like a nice job. Paint does wonders when they are that old. I like the painted metal rods and steering. Nice touch.

Another member on the east coast . Wahoo. Welcome. I was starting to think there was only a few lost souls in the tri state area.

The metal was rusted real bad so I wire wheeled it then sprayed the black paint on it.

Next job is the working headlight for it

A 25amp fuse may still blow. 30amp is usually a good size.

Anyone have any good diagrams or schematics for a single headlamp setup? I want to switch the stock headlight with a working one. Just not sure what is the best way to go. I was thinking with 2 12V 12ah Batteries LEDS are the way to go due to their low draw. It needs to be bright enough for actual function at night not just for show. I was thinking of using a smaller 1.5V separate power source to run a simple LED PC Board setup. I have 5 a LED flashlight that runs off 3AAA that is plenty bright and will not draw power from the main batteries. I would appreciate any other good ideas or input. Thanks

I used two of these on my latest project. They are very bright and cast deffinate shadows a good distance away. You can also get a lighted switch from them and you just wire it sraight to 12v.

I just finished up the headlight mod. I added a 12V 20A SPST Lighted Switch to the stock headlight housing. Installed a 12V Halogen Light in the front that i got from RadioShack for $6. It is super bright even with the old stock yellow lens over the light.

It stays surprisingly cool....I was worried about the heat from the light. It was way brighter than i expected and it lights a 15Ft path in front of the quad.

Man that is BRIGHT!!! I was also thinking about a halogen, but i was afraid of the heat output. You are definately making it work.

That is with both batteries low on charge. I'm charging right now to see it fully charged at night. Even with the pedal down the light stays full intensity and does not dim. I will have to see how much faster both batteries drain now with light on.

That's crazy bright. Using halogen up front like that probably will be ok, but I wouldn't use them as say roll bar lights on a Jeep.

Yea. I would not use more than 1 of these lights. Or near a child's head or face. After leaving it on by itself for 10 minutes it stayed cooler than i thought. And being up front it does seem to air cool better. It is a 20W....Good thing i didn't go with the 50W. I would be bringing it back.

Update: I decided to cut all the wiring i did from this and go to 12AWG. The 14AWG wire i had was getting warmer than i like. I'm also trying to find the right decal kit for it. New pictures soon!

Thanks. It just to give a general idea how it runs. The video is short and was shot using a 1.3MP Cell Camera. We just got a new 10.1MP camera so i will shot some good video this weekend

Heh. When i put the song over the video that was the first thing i noticed. LOL. It was by shear luck though. I'm so far from a video editor

Some video of the kid plowing the quad threw the mud puddle. This quad is stripped down and super light! My son usually wears a helmet and always recommend it but in this video the battery is only at about 20% and the speed it about half what it does.

Well this is going to be the main contender for the October MPW Meet at Tazs Track. I am going to put the 21T Gearboxes on the Quad running 18Volts. When i put the 21Ts on the Jeep it was moving good on 12Volts. So i'm thinking the Quad will be killer with 21Ts on 18Volts. The Quads tires are a few inches smaller than the Jeep so it should make it easier on the gearboxes. I am going to try and make some heatsinks out of Aluminum stock today. I'm not worried about fans for now since the motors get decent airflow underneath. If i get everything to match up today i'll post a video comparing the tire rotation of both sides..3B Super 6 on 12V Vs. 21T on 12V then 18V.
