There are 8 replies, with the last one on 12/03/2008 at 12:53:46 by drew510
Quote:
On my recent first try at a paint job I used 220 grit thinking that was fine enough - WRONG. Thankfully it was on the lower body pan and is not seen. I used 400 on the main body and it turned out good. I would HIGHLY reccommend sanding regardless of condition. I didn't sand the center portions of the hubcaps and they chipped easily where as it jostled around in my truck and hit the canopy bracket and made an indentation in the plastic and the paint stayed true - in an area that I had sanded.

Something else I found out was the paint dries so quickly, you will get a lot of paint dust. I would reccommend using some kind of pressurized air to blow it off between coats, or even a vaccuum as long as it is dry to the touch. I ended up with an area that looked painted until I vaccuumed up the dust, exposing the previous color beneath. This was after I had let the body cure for a week. Again, I was lucky that it was in a spot that is not seen, so I let it be.
